This video highlights a Teledyne Marine demonstration conducted in Icelandic waters, showcasing autonomous maritime technologies operating in a demanding North Atlantic environment.

Operating from Teledyne Marine’s Gavia facility in Kópavogur, Iceland, the demonstration illustrates how autonomous underwater systems can be deployed, operated, and supported in real‑world conditions. The activity reflects Teledyne Marine’s long‑standing presence in Iceland and its role as a hub for autonomous vehicle development, testing, and operations.

The Iceland environment provides a unique proving ground—combining cold water, challenging sea states, and complex operating areas—to demonstrate reliable performance, endurance, and system integration. These capabilities are directly relevant to defense, ocean science, and commercial maritime applications requiring persistent, uncrewed operations.

Demonstration highlights include:

Autonomous underwater vehicle and glider operations

Field deployment and recovery in Icelandic waters

Remote and local mission support from Iceland‑based facilities

Proven systems operating in harsh maritime conditions

Presenter: Professor Timmy Gambin, University of Malta

For over an entire decade, the Sicilian Superintendence of the Sea together with RPM Nautical, has explored the seabed off the Egadi Islands off Trapani. This ambitious and unique project produced some incredible results including, but not limited to, the discovery of numerous bronze rams. Despite the success of the first phases of the project it became clear that a new approach was necessary to survey the site in a more efficient manner. Since 2019, the University of Malta has partnered the Superintendence and RPM - specifically through the deployment of its Automated Underwater Vehicle. This talk will introduce the battle of the Egadi Islands and will also share some highlights and discoveries from the initial phases of the project. The main part of the presentation will cover the methodologies developed in the context of this project, how these complimented existing work and what results have been achieved so far.

In this fall series of podcasts, we introduce some of the winners and general entrants from the 2020 Teledyne Marine Photo Contest. Teledyne's annual Photo/ Data Contest concluded with over 80 qualified submissions that helped the company donate over $1200 to Save the Children as part of a charitable giving campaign.

In this episode we speak with Dr. Art Trembanis, a professor at the University of Delaware, who develops and utilizes advanced autonomous systems to map and explore oceans and lakes around the world filling in blank spots on the map. Art's contest submission was a photo of a Teledyne Gavia AUV underwater in Bermuda, preparing to so some survey work around the mesophotic reefs. Art's submission won him an Honorable Mention in this year's photo contest.
